Hydrogen Market

Home > Markets > Hydrogen

The hydrogen sector represents one of the most promising pathways to industrial decarbonization, but it also presents unique manufacturing challenges. Hydrogen applications require components that withstand high pressures, resist hydrogen embrittlement, and maintain structural integrity across the complete value chain from production to mobility. As this emerging market develops, manufacturers need reliable partners who understand both the technical demands and the rapid evolution of technologies.

At Setforge, we work closely with hydrogen equipment developers producing components for electrolyzers, storage systems, transport equipment, and fuel cell applications. Our forging expertise covers critical hydrogen components including tank valves, compressor elements, manifolds, and structural parts in aluminum, stainless steel, and specialized hydrogen-compatible alloys. We produce forged parts ranging from 0.1 kg to 1500 kg designed for the demanding pressure and purity requirements of hydrogen systems.

Why Forging?

Hydrogen storage, distribution and transport equipment requires components that can withstand high pressures, repeated cycles and the potential interactions between hydrogen and metallic materials. In mobile applications, these requirements must also be reconciled with strict weight control.

Forging produces components with high metallurgical integrity, a controlled microstructure and grain flow matched to their geometry. Together with appropriate material selection, controlled heat treatments and dedicated compatibility testing, our processes deliver the resistance to fatigue and cracking that hydrogen applications demand. This combination of mechanical performance, material optimization and industrial flexibility serves stationary installations and mobile equipment alike.

PARTNERSHIP FOR INNOVATION

The hydrogen sector is moving rapidly from research to industrialization, with technical specifications often unique to each project and demanding development cycles. Our engineers get involved from the earliest design phases, then support prototyping and the transition to series production. This collaboration integrates hydrogen-specific constraints, including material compatibility, pressure cycling, dimensional control and safety requirements.

Our approach covers the entire industrial journey, from forging through machining and finishing, performed in-house or with partners selected to suit the project. This organization lets us adapt processes and production capacity at every stage, from prototype to series volumes, while ensuring traceability and control of critical characteristics.
